What We Do
Our chapter is dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children. Listed below are ongoing activities.
Promoting Patriotism
- Send cards to active-duty service personnel
- Support our local first responders
- Support Wreaths Across America and participate in the wreath-laying ceremony
- Support Safe Space and other charitable organizations
- Observe Veterans Day and participate in Franklin County Veterans Day activities
- Participate in naturalization and U.S. flag retirement ceremonies
- Promote Constitution Week, which is celebrated annually from September 17–23

Chapter members participated in Wreaths Across America.

Chapter members honored our local officers at the sherriff’s office.

Chapter members attended the naturalization ceremony in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Christmas items were collected for families at Safe Space.

Donations to Safe Space were collected for Christmas.

Chapter members collected items for the DAR Service for Veterans Committee project.
Historic Preservation
- Participate in grave markings of local American Revolutionary War Patriots
- Support the National Society for the preservation of NSDAR buildings
- Participate in local historic programs, tours, and events

A tea party sponsored by the Shocco Creek Chapter, NSDAR, and the Tar River Center for History and Culture Foundation was held for an award-winning author of a mystery series set during the American Revolutionary War.

Members of the chapter participated in the River of Yesteryear, a living history event in Louisburg.

A local author discussed how ladies’ tea parties underscored the ways that women of the American Revolutionary War effected the economy and blindsided the British.
Education
- Participate in Bells Across America on September 17 to honor the signing of the U. S. Constitution
- Sponsor awards and recognition for students in grades five through twelve
- Sponsor the DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest for high school seniors
- Support Crossnore Communities for Children
- Host and promote workshops on genealogy

At an event at a historic home in Louisburg, chapter members made dolls with the children.

The proceeds from the chapter plant sale at Wolfpit Lodge were donated to Crossnore Communities for Children.

The NSDAR Community Service Award is presented to a member of the community for his volunteer efforts.
